Dick and Jane race each other in a 100-yard dash. Dick wins by 10 yards. They decide to race again, but this time to give Jane an equal chance, Dick begins 10 yards behind the starting line. Assuming that both run with the same constant speed as before, who is the winner this time?

Dick will win again, this time by one yard. In the first race Dick ran 100 yards to Jane's 90, so Jane ran 9 yards for every 10 covered by Dick. In the second race Dick has to cover 110 (i.e. 11 x 10)yards. While he's doing this, Jane will cover (11 x 9) or 99 yards.
