About 2 days. She left yesterday and she'll be back tomorrow. If she left late yesterday evening and arrived back early tomorrow evening, she would be gone for less than 48 hours.

Depends when she left yesterday as that may count as a day. If so, it could be four days as she is away yesterday, today, tomorrow and the day after (if by eve you are counting that as a day as well).

It says 'eve OF the day' not the 'eve IN the day' - we speak of New Year's Eve, which is the evening before New Year's day. So the 'eve of the day after tomorrow' is tomorrow. Ergo, Mrs. Smith was on a trip yesterday, today, and tomorrow (three days). I know that this is semantics, but 'semantics are important'.

I have reread the question carefully and my answer stands. You are right, semantics is important (note the singular). How many days is she away? If I leave this evening and come back tomorrow morning, I am away less than 1 day, rather than being away more than two. So I'd say the answer to your question is 'about 2 days'.

Semantics is the plural for semantic - so, semantics are important. Now, Christ was in the tomb for three days...part of Friday, Saturday, and part of Sunday. So that even though two of the days he was entombed were partials we still say that he was dead for three days. The same logic holds here. Although Mrs. Smith was on a trip for the part of some days, these 'part days' are still considered 'full days' as these semantics demand.

DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY YESTERDAY The day she left ( the day after the day before yesterday ) ( assume she left at the very start of the day) Day 1 TODAY ( The place where all of the calculations start from ) day 2 TOMORROW She comes back on the eve of the day after tomorrow. The 'eve' is the evening of the day (tomorrow) Day 3 DAY AFTER TOMORROW Answer 3 days I'm sure I said this before! Thank God I'm Irish... : )
