What is the name given to those pictures or prints that when you look at them in a certain way stand out. I think they might be of Chinese origin?

    Question #24574. Asked by jumbo.

    Gnomon

Are you thinking of Autostereograms? These have an almost regular repeating pattern. When you position your view on a point beyond the page and then refocus, you see a slightly different image with each eye, causing a three-dimensional effect.
