When I learned 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' there were 12 lords a-leaping, 11 ladies dancing and 10 pipers piping. During a recent board game of 'Millionaire' I was told that this was incorrect. I think the card said 10 lords a-leaping. Convinced that the card was incorrect, I consulted the internet, which confirmed the answer on the card. My daughter's book on Christmas songs contains the version I learned. What are the original words?

I always remember it as 12 Fiddlers Fiddling. Ever thought what the recipient actually thought of all those gifts and how she thanked the sender? http://www.ecl.udel.edu/~eckman/mail/mail/00718 gives you her replies.

I must warn you the language is a bit stong so do not open it if you are of a demure disposition.

Thanks folks, especially Shocked of Aylesford. I don't think that song will ever conjure the same mental images for me again!

I have looked at many websites and I'm afraid 'Millionaire' was correct, please look at this site which also provides you with the religious meaning. http://www.rbls.lib.il.us/dpl/reference/faqs/faq12mean.htm

There is a card game that I have forgotten the name of. The basics are that there are four players in teams of two. You are each dealt 13 cards, you decide either to "grand" by showing a black card, or fo "low" by showing a red card. The goal of the game is either to grand and take tricks or go low and not take tricks. Does anyone recognise the game?

On December 2, 2008, on the show 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?' the contestant used the Ask the Audience lifeline for an answer to the question, "Who was the inspiration for Amy Winehouse's debute album?" The answer chosen by the audience was incorrect. With four choices, was this the first time the audience proved incorrect?
