Natural fibre ropes will tighten in very wet weather, we are taught, and so guyropes on tents should be slackened before rain. Synthetic ropes should not suffer from this, but a lot of people still slacken off just in case Sorry I can't provide anything more scientific than scout lore. I wish my tambourines and bodhran didn't get SLACKER when the air is damp.
