Can you see the 'earthrise' or the 'earthset' on the moon?

Question #24968. Asked by Nude Dude.

Definitely NO ! Not if you are standing (still) ON the Moon.
If you are standing on the 'dark side' of the Moon, then no matter how long you wait, it will always be dark and you cannot see the Earth from there.
If you are on the 'face' of the Moon, it is constantly towards the Earth and the Earth will never move out of sight 'over the horizon'.
It you are ORBITING the Moon in a 'Lunar module' then the Earth 'rises' (basically comes into view) as you exit that part of the orbit that is round the darkside.
This would happen 'ON' the moon (very slowly) if you walk, run or drive from the darkside to the light side , or 'set' if doing the reverse.
A bit like walking over the top of a hill so that you can see something on the other side !!!
    confirmation here.

ALthough the Moon always keeps the same face towards the Earth, it sways slightly from side to side. THis is because the moon turns on its axis at a uniform speed, but it goes around the Earth in an elliptical orbit and hence not at a completely uniform speed. The net result is that from any position on the moon's surface the earth appears to hang in the sky but the Earth will wobble up and down slightly over the course of a month (a moon day). There would be positions where the earth would be just on the horizon and would rise and set.

For the same reason, we on Earth can see slightly more than 50% of the moon's surface.

And by the way, the 'dark side of the moon' is no darker than the other side. It gets its 14 days of sunshine and 14 days of dark just the same as the other side. The only difference is that one side of the moon always sees the Earth in the sky, the other side never sees it.
