PI has now been calculated to 1.24 trillion places. Most people use 3.142 for decimal calculations, or 22/7 (3 and one seventh) as a vulgar or simple fraction. 22/7 = 3.142857.... but PI actually starts 3.1415926535. Now 355/113 = 3,14159292 . This makes 355/133 better to use than 22/7 The further you go, you come up with yet another fractional representation that is better than the last. Which fraction is nearest to the 1.24 trillion decimal placed PI ?

Using fractions or decimals is limited by the type of calculator you are using to carry out any calculations as they can only handle a certain number of digits or decimal places. 6,283,185,307/2,000,000,000 is about the limit for most modern calculators

The more digits you put in the number on the top and bottom of the fraction, the closer you can get to the real value. The most accurate fraction would be the 1.24 trillion digit number divided by a 1 with 1.24 trillion noughts after it.
