During the Spanish Inquisition, accused heretics were imprisoned without hearing the charges against them, and kept in stinking dungeons, dark and vermin infested, alone with their excrement. Moldy bread and stale water helped to supplement the cockroaches and spiders. In many cases their time was spent in complete darkness for many years, and they suffered terrible torture. There is not enough space on the FunTrivia site to go into detail. So go to the following site for your edification. WARNING It is horrific, so don't look at the site if you can not view descriptions of torture and torture implements easily. http://www.dimensional.com/~randl/racking.htm
