Who/what was on the most popular poster?

    Question #26094. Asked by Lisa.

    Andy

Since 1992, a record 37.5 million posters have been sold with the image of Marilyn Monroe on it. For males, the record holder is James Dean, with a mere 17,500 posters sold.

In Britain at least, the most famous poster is probably the World War One recruitment poster featuring Lord Kitchener.

Either that or one saying 'No bill posting'.

That may be so Linus but was it the most popular? I think it may the poster with the most number of copies but it doesn't necessarily mean it was popular.

Bennett. I was looking at the question from the point of view of the 'Kitchener' poster's 'popularity' in the sense of its reported public ubiquity around the time of the war and the prevalence with which its design has since been imitated and adapted, rather than the degree to which it was approved of or held in high regard by people.
