Where did iron get its name?

    Question #26179. Asked by brina.

    According to http://www.yourDictionary.com

'Iron' comes from the Middle/Old English 'iren', which comes indirectly from the Indo-European root 'eis-'. In other words, the word has been around for millennia (I would guess, since the Iron Age. Probably little use for it in the Stone Age)
