I can think of 'Whiskey Galore' 'Lavender Hill Mob' 'Passport to Pimlico' and something about a white suit that never wore out ........ so how many Ealing Comedies were there and what were they?

Question #26502. Asked by filmbuffnot. (Jan 15 03 2:15 PM)

The Man In The White Suit is the one you're thinking of, there. There's also The Titchfield Thunderbolt, The Lady Killers, and Kind Hearts And Coronets - these are the main films known as 'Ealing Comedies' although Ealing Studios did make a lot more comic films than this.

The first film in this series was 'Hue and Cry' with Alistair Sim - made in 1946.

Not in the same league as 'Whiskey Galore', 'Lavender Hill Mob'etc. but don't forget all the 'Doctor' and 'Carry On' films were also made at Ealing.

The Carry On's were made at Pinewood. So were the Doctors. If they were made at Ealing they'd called 'Ealing Comedies' too wouldn't they?
People forget about Ealing's dramas though. They made a series of very good social dramas in the early post-war period including 'The Bells Go Down', 'I Believe in You' and 1949s classic 'The Blue Lamp'.
