I was watching a programme about vets (as in animal doctors not soldiers) and wondered why they didn't wear masks or caps when they were performing surgery. Aren't animals at risk from human germs (you know what I mean - no animal rights diatribes please!) ?

I know this is a weak explanation, but animals can't contract human germs like humans can contract animal germs. Hopefully, someone can post a followup and explain it more in detail.

Basically, human germs can only make humans sick, not animals. Most animal germs will only make animals sick, and most only make certain types of animals sick.
