Before the cat, what animal did the Romans use for Vermin controll?

Question #27432. Asked by RND. (Jan 30 03 9:19 PM)

    Tabby Tom

    Weasels.

Hence the he Latin word 'feles', meaning cat, is sometimes used for a weasel.
In Shakespeare's 'Rape of Lucrece', after Tarquin has entered Lucretia's house, 'night-wandering weasels shriek to see him there.'
