What form of music style is not considered rock and roll; disco, swing or heavy metal?

Question #27441. Asked by red. (Jan 30 03 11:40 PM)

Swing is a derivative of jazz / dance band music, whereas heavy metal (yay!) and disco (boring to me) are derivatives of rock and roll. I would call them rock rather than rock and roll which is usually taken to be the 50s-60s style following Bill Haley's Rock Around the Clock hit. Copyright 1953. Where does the time go?
