    What was the first European permanent settlement in Baja California, and who founded it?

    		On October 25, 1697 Father Salvatierra founded the first permanent mission in the Californias on a sheltered plain opposite Isla Carmen. It was named Nuestra Se%F1ora de Loreto Concho. Thus began the colonization and conquest of what we now refer to the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur and the State of California.
