On October 25, 1697 Father Salvatierra founded the first permanent mission in the Californias on a sheltered plain opposite Isla Carmen. It was named Nuestra Se%F1ora de Loreto Concho. Thus began the colonization and conquest of what we now refer to the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur and the State of California. http://archaeology.parks.ca.gov/cultural/spanmex/ecrm/ecrmmiss.html The site above has a list of Missions established on BAJA CALIFORNIA and BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR
