    There is varying reports as to which is actually second or third. The most consistantly listed language is - Hindustani (but that could be a combination of Hindi and Bengali), though there are other sites out there that list Spanish even ahead of English.

    According to the 'Top 10 of Everything' (2003 edition), the top three most widely spoken languages in the world are Mandarin Chinese, Hindustani and Spanish. Hindi and Urdu are essentially the same language - Hindustani.
