There is varying reports as to which is actually second or third. According to the 'Top 10 of Everything' (2003 edition), the top three most widely spoken languages in the world are Mandarin Chinese, Hindustani and Spanish. Hindi and Urdu are essentially the same language - Hindustani. Feb 10 03, 8:24 PM
