greencavalier is spot on it was Andorra on 25-Sep-1939 ... even when Germany surrendered to the U.S. and all its allies, World War One was not officially over until all the leaders of all the countries involved in the war trooped on over to France and signed the Treaty of Versailles in 1919. Well, almost all the leaders. See, someone forgot to invite Andorra. Maybe it was because Andorra didn't really have one leader to invite. Or maybe everyone just forgot. (We're betting on the latter.) But without signing the treaty, World War One never officially ended between Andorra and Germany ... Andorra remembered real quick in 1939, when Germany invaded Poland and all the countries of Europe started declaring war on Germany again. In 1939, this was Hitler's Germany, and everyone was pretty much terrified that this war was going to be even bigger than the first one. This time, some intelligent folks in Andorra woke up and said, 'Hey, dude, we might have a problem.' (Except they said it in Catalan, which is supposed to be a very pretty language.) So, on September 25, 1939, Andorra and Germany had a meeting and finally ended World War One, just in the nick of time for Andorra to be officially neutral for all of World War Two. So this week, remember Andorra: a very forgetful little country that chickened out on the Second World War! www.brainevent.com/be/WackyWeek/twwih/20020923/show_article_then_toc

Baloo55th says: Well done greencavalier and gtho4. I believe the Andorran troops did set out for the war, but the passes were blocked so they went back. And then didn't bother again! http://timelines.ws/days/09_25.HTML Timelines is good for a lot of unusual information, which is why I checked this out there before posting the question. Tue Feb 18 07:40:01 CST 2003 An afterthought: One of Andorra'a leaders would have been present at Versailles - the President of France. (The other leader is the Bishop of Urgel in Spain.) He probably had more things on his mind than his nominal role as Prince of Andorra. Tue Feb 18 07:43:28 CST 2003 (Reposted as one entry - McG)

Surprisingly, there are quite a number of 'biggies' (important and influential people) whose names begin with 'I' in human history. I submit to you here the ten most important among them, in my opinion. See if you agree!
