At night ships display coloured lights on each side to show which way they are facing. What is the colour displayed on the port side?

Red. Green on the starboard side.

Easy to remember, red, which is the colour of port (the drink) goes on the left, left and port both have 4 letters.

And I suppose you can easily remember starboard as it is where all the green people throw up over the side.

To avoid collisions, vessels mount navigation lights that permit other vessels to determine the type and relative angle of a vessel, and thus decide if there is a danger of collision. For example, almost all vessels mount a green light on the starboard (right), a red light on the port (left), and white light masthead and stern lights (multiple masthead lights on large vessels).
