M&M's were invented by Forest Mars. Roxanne was right. He got the idea from watching Spanish soliders eat a similar candy. The chocolate candies were coated in sugar to keep the soliders hands from getting sticky while eating the chocolate. M&Ms began being sold in the United States during World War II. The goverment used this candy to give to soliders because it was a snack that could last in almost any climate. The candy became a huge success in the United States shortly after, due to the fact most places did not have air conditioning and the sugar coat helped keep chocolate from getting messy.
