The Earth is fatter around the equator than around the poles. This is because it spins. The spinning throws the bits around the equator outwards so that the shape is a bit like a mandarin orange or a tennis ball that has been sat on. How much? Not very much. The diameter of the earth from North Pole to South Pole is 7900 miles. The diameter at the equator is 7926 miles.
