This sport dates back to 23 BC and until 1919 female spectators were banned. The first professional club for this sport was established in 1751. Which sport is it?

Try sumo wrestling. I typed in "23bc sport history" and the first one that popped up was Sumo and I know it is considered sacred so maybe females were not allowed until recently but maybe I'm not right.

I think golf would be a better answer. I have heard that the term golf is an anagram for Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden. So that would fit the female spectators being banned, and it is the only well-known sport that is played at a club rather than on a field or a court.
