Can someone tell me an interesting fact about black holes?

Question #29047. Asked by roobear. (Mar 04 03 1:22 AM)

    Gnomon

Black holes are not completely black. They give off tiny amounts of energy, so they are really dark grey. This energy is called Hawking radiation and happens due to a Quantum Mechanical effect called 'tunneling'. Over time, the black hole will evaporate, eventually disappearing in a blinding flash. This takes a long time, though. For any currently existing black holes, they will survive for a lot longer than the present age of the universe before they evaporate.
