That's right. When he arrived in London, he didn't know any name for himself, so the Brown family who found him called him Paddington after the station where they found him.

Paddington was born in Peru, where he lived with his parents. We don't know much about Paddington's family, only about his uncle Pastuso. He had a caf%E9, high up in the mountains in Peru. Uncle Pastuso died in an earthquake, the same earthquake that separated Paddington from his father and mother. The only thing uncle Pastuso left behind was his favorite red hat and his briefcase with the secret compartment. Paddington grew up with his aunt Lucy. She also taught him English, because she always thought that Paddington would go to Great-Britain. http://home.concepts.nl/~lwmkeijs/bb002.htm

nearly,Sequioanoir according to the BBC who sent Stephen Fry down to retrace his journey, the little bear was named after his uncle who indeed left him his hat and scarf .Alas he did not travel by the train from Southampton, how would he end up in Paddington. The BBC state that since he had eaten all his marmalade on his trip he went in search for more and went to Oxford to get some more which is why he ended up at Paddington station
