I have been called an BOF (boring old fart) so many times that it is one of those words that does not offend any more, as far as I am concerned. http://www.microbe.org/news/gassy.asp explains the microbiology behind belching and farting. http://www.bobpayne.com/MAD%20Cow%20Decease.htm has a rather tongue in cheek 300 quarts of methane gas a day per cow and the plan of volunteer, kamikaze cattle being be placed in orbiting 'gas stations' above rogue states. Harmless and unassuming in peacetime, if a missile attack is launched against the United States, these patriotic cowsmonauts dive single-mindedly into their appointed task. With no small measure of metaphorical irony, the cows spew out gas station portals toward the upbound missiles. As they smash into the speeding projectiles, the built-up methane in their bellies is ignited by the rocket heat. Both missile and beast are vaporized in space

Never go to a birthday party at a cattle ranchers house because according to http://www.nature.com/nsu/000907/000907-6.html a single cow produces about 600 litres of methane every day (enough to inflate 40 party balloons).
