A fraternity at a college or university means that there is a group of about 20-30 men living in one big house, who have to be chosen by the society to become a member based on excellence in school, leadership, and community service. Usually these men are on a sports team as well. It's all really silly, they have there own secret rules and tasks that each newcomer must perform to get in. They go by names of the greek nature, like Delta Alpha Chi, or something, that is why sometimes members of fraternities are sometimes called greek. A sorority is just like a fraternity, but this involves women.
