There has been some experiments involving turning a hydra inside out. What was the purpose of those experiments and what happened to the poor hydra?

USA #1 says: This may help student. http://www.northern.edu/natsource/INVERT1/Hydra1.htm Sun Mar 16 20:41:53 CST 2003 At the bottom of the article they talk about using a disecting microscope. I assume they cut it open and observe the inards through a microscope. The are trying to figure out what is in the hydra that paralyzes its attackers.
