the Latin word, Argentum, because when the Spanish landed on the continent, the were expecting to find Gold and Silver.

By the way, the Latin name is why Silver #47 is symbolized Ag instead of a symbol beginning with "s". The same goes for Gold, Au, Lead, Pb, Mercury, Hg, Tin, Sn, Antinomy, Sb, Copper, Cu, Potassium, K, and Sodium, Na.

Yes, and the Latin words for gold and lead are "aurum" and "plumbum" respectively. Tungsten is W for "Wolfrum". I don't know about sodium and potassium though.
