Tabby Tom says: The deal was concluded on March 30, 1867. The price was {$7,200,000,} or approximately two cents an acre. Fri Mar 21 14:15:43 CST 2003 At the time it was widely regarded as 'Seward's folly' and a complete waste of money. But a few years later gold was found there, and I believe they've discovered quite a lot of oil since. Fri Mar 21 14:45:21 CST 2003 (Reposted as one entry - McG)
