I always thought that you had to regularly turn bottles of white wine, red wine and champagne. Is this correct?

Champagne bottles are turned regularly during the manufacturing process, but it is not necessary to turn bottles after you have bought them. It is enough to store them horizontally so that the cork is kept wet.

If you have a red wine that's sedimented, it's not a good idea to turn it. You want to keep the nasty bits at the bottom (unless you're Nanny Ogg and give it a good shake to mix the goodness in). White wine shouldn't be sedimented, nor should champagne, normally, so turning will not affect anything for good or ill. Unless you drop it while turning it.

Champagne is turned while it is still fermenting but not after it is bottled.
