Okay, I had to look this up as I did not know before hand and I will now probably be accused of cheating. According to http://www.alibi.com/alibi/1999-10-14/skeleton.html - On Oct. 14, 1912, former U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt was shot in the chest but proceeded to deliver a scheduled speech regardless of the assassination attempt. The former Rough Rider of Spanish American-War fame and two-term Commander in Chief was seeking a third presidential term and campaigning in Wisconsin. The manuscript of the intended speech was in his breast pocket and is credited with saving the feisty politician's life, as it slowed the bullet's progress.
