A deep sea divers helmet. In 1823, the English Charles Anthony Deane obtains a patent for an invention he calls 'smoked hat'. First intended for firemen, this hard hat will soon be used by divers. The hard hat covers the head and is secured with weights and straps. The air comes through tubes from the surface.
