    If beer is mainly water why does it make you so dehydrated?

    The water in the beer is insufficient to counteract the dehydrating qualities of the alcohol.

    Ethyl alcohol or ethanol, known commonly as alcohol, is the same whether the beverage is wine, beer, or hard liquor. www.oregoncounseling.org/ArticlesPapers/ Documents/ETOHBIOFx.htm

    Alcohol causes dehydration two-fold, by requiring more water to metabolise, and by acting as a diuretic (making you wee more).

    I want to make a home brew beer. I have been very meticulous when sterilising and rinsing all equipment.
