Seeds produce hormones to tell the seed to grow roots. There are commercially available hormones to make cuttings root, but is it possible to get the hormones from a seed or germinating seed and put them into a cutting so it grows roots in your own home, maybe by mashing it and rubbing it into the cutting?

Question #31238. Asked by student. (Apr 08 03 12:04 AM)

    KIWI IN OZ

A plant called pussy willow in NZ and Australia produces these hormones.
I used to use it a lot back in NZ when i had my own garden.
Put some small branches of pussy willow in water, these will grow roots it is these roots that produce the hormone. then add any cuttings you wish to root into the water also. they will also root. DO NOT change the water, just top it up.

Most likely, but hardwood cuttings can take a lot longer.Because their natural growth is prolific the pussy willow speeds things up.
you can also buy rooting hormones in powder form.
