Does anyone know the rules and regulations governing the 'cut' in the Masters at Augusta? I know it is not 70 and ties, but there seems no logic to it over the years. Perhaps it is anyone within 10 shots of the leader?

The actual information is: Due to the ever increasing field, the 36-hole cut was instituted in 1957. The lowest 40 scores and any tied on the same score and those within 10 strokes of the leader would qualify for the final 36 holes. In 1961, it was changed to the lowest 44 scores and anyone tied on the highest of these. Since 1966, the lowest cut was a score of 145, the highest cut was 154. The lowest number that made the cut is the minimum 44, the most was 64. http://www.masters.org/en_US/history/records/cutinfo.html
