sakvacman says: In 1908 in England, Lord Robert Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scouts. An American newspaper publisher by the name of Wiliam D.Boyce was over there and got lost, while looking at a map, a Scout came over and asked if he needed assistance. The publisher was so overwhelmed he spoke with Lord Powell about starting the Scouts in America. n February 8. 1910 The Boy Scouts of America was founded. Also, what's interesting is that in 1909 the Boy Scouts were having a big convention in London, a lot of girls showed up, when questioned why, they said they wanted to become Scouts. Lord Powell called on his elder sister Agnes Baden-Powell to form a group for girls, and in 1910, the Girl Guides later the Girl Scouts were formed. Juliette Low founded the Girl Scouts of America in 1912. Sat Apr 12 00:14:54 CDT 2003 Forgot to add Cub Scouts were started in 1930. Other offshoots of Boy Scouting were also formed..Explorers (for older boys and girls) in I believe 1955, Tiger Cubs (for young boys 6-8 yrs old) in 1988.
