It appears that Massachusetts is now on a Hollywood blacklist of sorts. Last year, Boston newspapers ran a series of front-page stories on 'alleged' corruption within the Teamsters Local 25, the union which provides drivers and vehicles for all the film and TV productions that shoot around Massachusetts. According to the local papers, a number of high-profile movies that were filmed in Massachusetts over the last few years (such as The Perfect Storm) were seriously affected by difficult relations with the Teamsters. This 'alleged' corruption at Local 25 ranged from physical intimidation of uncooperative members (including beatings) to outright extortion, such as forcing film productions to hire extra (unnecessary) personnel and/or to only rent or buy their equipment from companies connected to Local 25.
