Who was the gaffer before Shanks?

Question #31648. Asked by punk boy.

    s2boy

By Shanks, I presume you mean Bill Shankly, the manager of Liverpool Football Club between 1959 and 1974. Therefore, the preceding manager, or gaffer as they are often called, especially in those days, was Phil Taylor who managed the club between 1956 and 1959.
