What type of measurement system do you use in the UK (eg. metric, etc.)?

    Question #31773. Asked by LOTRluver.

    Tabby Tom

The metric system (strictly, the Systeme International or SI) is now the official system in the UK. The only other legal units are the mile and other Imperial units of length on road signs and for speed measurement, the pint for draught beer and cider, the acre for land registration and the troy ounce for precious metals.

But is legal to use Imperial units as supplementary indications (e.g. a retailer can price his apples at '%A31.32 kg/60p lb'). So in practice the Imperial system can still be used. Milk, for example, is still sold in pints and multiples of {pints;} but the bottle I bought from the supermarket today is marked '1.136 {litres;} 2 pints.'
