    Including the ancient ones, how many languages exist?

    		There can be no definitive answer I'm afraid. Languages are dialects are hard to classify and they evolve over the years. This link gives a lot of information about living, endangered and recently-extinct languages. It puts the current total of living languages at about 6,800, including many that are spoken by perilously few people and may not last another generation.
