Stereoscopic or 3D films -- which display two images at the same time -- date back to at least 1903. Stereoscopic television was actually imagined by the early television pioneers of the 1920's! Yet, the first known experimental television 3D broad- cast in the U.S. was in Los Angeles in 1953. The first 'non experimental' 3D television broadcast was on December 19th, 1980 and was aired over SelectTV, a Los Angeles pay TV system. The program was a 3D feature film from 1953, Miss Sadie Thompson, and a 3D short starring the 3 Stooges (Spooks, 1953). http://www.dtf.net/3d_history_page.html
