The story recounts the defense of Rourke's Drift by Company B of the 24th Regiment of Foot. The Drift served as a hospital and building site for a bridge to supply the main column of British Soldiers sent to 'punish' Zulu Chief Cetehwayo for defying the orders of the British Governor of South Africa. The main effort resulted in the massacre of virtually the entire Regiment of the 24th Foot of Her Majesty's Army at the Battle of Isandlawanda.
