Yes, it's definitely there to keep the lid from sticking to the pizza. Long long ago, when I was a kid (back in the stone age), they didn't have the little blue tripod or white table and my mother used to regularly get coupons for free pizzas by complaining that the lid had stuck to the pizza and tipped off half the toppings. The pizza place used to try covering the pizza with tinfoil and that would work about half the time, but the little table thingies work much better. May 03 03, 2:01 AM
