No, it's a different day altogether. Mother's day is May 11th and celebrated(according to my diary) in the USA, Canada, Australia and new Zealand. We celebrate Mothering Sunday, the 4th Sunday in Lent - 30th March this year. Traditionally, children gave their Mums small bouquets of flowers, and have Simnel Cake (although I've always made this at Easter). It also goes back to the time when daughters were in service and were given this day off to go home to visit their families. According to Brewers Dictionary of Phrase and Fable it is said to be derived from the pre-Reformation custom of visiting the Mother Church on that day.
