The Minnesota Lakers relocated to Los Angeles in 1960. Indeed, they are called the Lakers because they used to reside in the 'Land of 10,000 Lakes'. The Minnesota Lakers won the championship in 1949, 1950, 1952, and 1953. The new Los Angeles Lakers have won the past three championships, and are in the playoffs once again, hoping to make it four straight. They overcame the other Minnesota basketball team, the Timberwolves, in six games and their series with the San Antonio Spurs is currently knotted at two games apiece.
