Before being moved to the Tower of London, where were the Crown Jewels housed?

Question #33594. Asked by punk boy. (May 13 03 3:32 PM)

    Gippler

My reading suggests that, as the Crown Jewels, they have always been housed at the Tower of London. Most of them date back to the Restoration (17th century).

The Crown Jewels have been housed in the Tower of London since 1303 following a theft from Westminster Abbey.

Even before the keep at Westminster Abbey, they were kept in a locked trunk, under the charge of the Lord Chamberlain I believe. This was in the days of Edward the Confessor when an English Regalia set was first assembled.
