I found one source that said there were 2,800 diamonds in Britain's Imperial Crown, but the following is more exact. "There are 2,783 diamonds, 277 pearls, 16 sapphires, 11 emeralds, and 4 rubies. The old jewels include: the Prince's Ruby, St Edwards sapphire, and Elizabeth's pearls. Among the diamonds is the Second Star of Africa. It is worn for special occasions like the opening of Parliament." http://riceinfo.rice.edu/armadillo/Sciacademy/webcamp/people/RyanW/CrownJewels.html
