We know from history that "French manicures may have its origin in the 18th Century and was popular in the 1920s and 1930s. The re-popularisation of the French manicure since the 1970s is sometimes accredited to Jeff Pink, founder of ORLY International. He got his beginnings working closely with movie producers and one day they asked him to come up with nail look that would coordinate with all of his leading lady’s costumes. Jeff had attended a fashion show there and noticed that all of the models had white pencil under the tip of their nails. He took this idea back to Hollywood with him and coordinated polishes to duplicate the look". (Source: Wikipedia)
