    Question #34161. rowan asks:

Who has the highest Test cricket batting average while playing for Australia?

    Clayhead

Wasn't it Don Bradman about 99.94?

    Tabby Tom

The standard answer is Don Bradman, with an average of 99.94 (80 innings, 10 times not out, 6996 runs).

But if you don't set a qualification for the number of innings, then Albert Trott beats Bradman. Trott played in three Tests for Australia in 1894-95, scoring 38 not out, 72 not out, 85 not out, 10 and 0. This gives an average of 102.50.

Maybe someone can come up with an even higher average for an occasional player.

Excellent Tabby! A trick question, really, but one in which I gave a clue: 'while playing for Australia'. Albert Trott later played a number of games for England and batted rather badly, dragging his average down considerably. But his average FOR OZ is higher than Bradman's.
