And it must be remembered that it has been British longer than it was Spanish who only acquired it in 1492.

Interesting article here on the talks between Britain and Spain. It also mentions the equivalent Spanish enclaves which are 'geographically' Moroccan but which Spain wants to retain, despite the damage to its credibility over Gibraltar. http://www.gbn.org/ArticleDisplayServlet.srv?aid=1210
