Why do some small animals hibernate at winter?

Question #34318. Asked by Stu Pidman. (May 25 03 1:57 PM)

It's all to do with survival. A small animal burns up fat from the food it eats faster than larger creatures, and this makes wintertime hibernation (when food is scarce) a necessity. See: http://ladywildlife.com/animal/whydoanimalshibernate.html
